Facebook brawl promoter identified

TWEED police have located the man responsible for starting a Facebook group which promoted a public brawl at Tweed City Shopping Centre.

As the Tweed Daily News reported last Saturday, 5500 Facebook users accepted the invitation to attend the fight, which was purportedly being organised by a 13-year-old Kingscliff High School boy.

But principal Alan Tolley said it was definitely not one of his students who was responsible.

“We know who he is and he is not a Kingscliff High School student. We believe he is a 19-year-old man,” Mr Tolley said.

“Our students were not happy that this person was attributed to be a Kingscliff High School student.”

The Facebook invitation said the brawl would take place last Saturday, but it did not eventuate.

Tweed Byron police crime co-ordinator Stuart Crawford said the page author had been located and spoken to by police.

“He is very remorseful for his actions,” he said.
