Families celebrate Easter with sand, sea and sun
WITH the Easter long weekend almost at an end, tourists were making the most of their remaining time on the Tweed yesterday.
Beaches were packed, restaurants full and families filled the streets, making the most of the sunny day.
The Straker family was at Greenmount Beach and Dad, Richard was building sandcastles with his son Alex and daughter Kimberly, while Mum Libby caught a few rays.
"It's been great, wonderful," he said.
"Good to escape from Brisbane and it's a lot better than last Australia weekend when we came down, at least the beaches are open.
"The beach, the sun, it's just wonderful."
Mr Straker said the family were staying at Oaks Calypso Plaza Resort in Coolangatta and they'd all enjoyed spending time with family and escaping the hustle and bustle of the big city.
Libby Straker said their family holiday had been carefree and without any hassles.
"It's been great down here, with the kids playing on the beach," she said.
"It's our second attempt, we came down last time and there happened to be a cyclone visiting as well.
"So nice here, a beach to lay on, the kids are happy, there's a few waves and the kids are fighting a losing battle to build a sandcastle, but it's all going very good."
The Strakers were just one of many families lazing about enjoying the weather and scenery that Tweed residents often take for granted.
Although Easter may be chocolate-centric for some, most tourists My Daily News talked to were just glad to be spending some well deserved time with loved ones.
