Family of seven injured in van crash
AN entire family from Murwillumbah ended up in hospital over the weekend after the van they were travelling in crashed into a tree in the notorious fatigue zone south of Woodburn.
Just after 3am on Sunday, a southbound Mitsubishi Delica lost control on the Pacific Hwy at Tabbimobile, veered off the road and down an embankment before crashing into a tree, Richmond Local Area Command duty officer Inspector Nicole Bruce said.
As a result, two adults and five children were injured.
Paramedics from Evans Head and Ballina had their hands full treating all patients while attempting to remove the 59-year-old male driver.
The driver was trapped for an hour before he was released by paramedics and transported to Coffs Harbour Hospital with leg and arm injuries.
An eight-year-old girl was seriously injured and sustained abdominal and head injuries, a NSW Ambulance spokeswoman said.
A 14-year-old male sustained foot and abdominal injuries, a 47-year-old female had facial injuries and a two-year-old child had chest and abdominal injuries.
Another eight-year-old child and five-year-old child were also injured, Insp Bruce said.
All family members, except for the driver, were transported to Lismore Base Hospital via ambulance.
The Ballina Crash Investigation Unit is investigating the crash.
