Big bull-riding event is on its way
THE rope secures his gloved hand tight against the beast's back.
Beads of sweat start to form beneath his hat, and the adrenalin that pumps through his veins oozes from every pore.
He is given the nod.
Music blasts from the speakers, only slightly drowning out the cheering crowd.
Eight seconds is all he needs.
The sheer power of the 770kg bull steals every ounce of strength from he who tries to tame the untamable.
Qualifying time or not, this extreme sport has won the hearts of many, and for those standing outside the ring, it's the best entertainment around.
Ladies and gentlemen, get ready for one wild ride when The Daily Examiner and Rural Weekly bring you the Professional Bull Riding Tour at Grafton Showground on March 28.
The nation's top bull riders will descend on the Clarence Valley for the event, and DEX general manager Nigel Irving urged the community to get their Ariats and Akubras ready.
"The PBR is going to be a brilliant event for the town," he said. "This is something we are putting on for the Valley, not only for the locals, but to bring people from surrounding regions to Grafton as well."
Steering the event is Australian Regional Media event manager Dianne Hallam, who is best known in rodeo circles as former Australian Bushman's and Campdraft Association general manager, who said the PBR Live Series was an event not to miss.
"We are hoping to make it an annual event in Grafton if it is a success," Ms Hallam said.
Tickets are on sale from The Daily Examiner office, or online here.
