Farmers benefit from food forum
MORE than 50 local food producers and agricultural industry members packed into the Murwillumbah Golf Club yesterday for a Northern Rivers Food Links Agriculture Forum.
A panel of experts including Greg Reid from the NSW Department of Primary Industries and Bob Jarman of the Northern Landcare Support Services addressed our local primary producers to share their knowledge on food production.
The event offered discussion on climate change, and projects such as sustainable greenhouse production, biological farming methods, sustainable grazing and soil health for commercial food production.
Northern Rivers Food Links Project Manager Sam Muller said she was delighted with the response from the Tweed shire community.
“It is certainly heartening to know that we have such a great cross-section of producers who are obviously passionate, dedicated and committed to securing a sustainable food future for our region,” Ms Muller said.
“Our Sustainable Agriculture Project partners provide an amazing resource of experience and knowledge whilst still maintaining a focus on economic outcomes needed to keep farmers on the land.”
Many of the Tweed farmers and agriculture association members who attended were pleased at the chance to network and hoped to hold similar forums in the future.
