Fee reduction to boost building

GOLD Coast City Council has agreed to further support the development and construction industry on the coast.

The council has pledged its support with the announcement of possible 50% fee reductions for some applicants.

Gold Coast mayor Ron Clarke said the council is hoping to stimulate the development industry.

“Applications will be assessed on a case-by-case basis, but the emphasis here is to provide further stimulus for the development and construction industry,” Cr Clarke said last week.

“The decision came after council voted, on a motion from Cr Dawn Crichton, to support a possible 50% reduction in development application fees based on the case-by-case principle.

“Each decision will be reported back to council to ensure transparency.”

Cr Clarke said the announcement added to recent positive news for the industry when council endorsed a proposed new schedule of fees that will see residential charges on the Gold Coast between $1000 and $6500 below the maximum standard charges set by the State Government.

The new charges were endorsed by the full council on Friday and will apply from July 1.
