Feedback 'vital' for park plans
FEEDBACK is being sought on a Tweed Shire plan to reinvigorate a Hastings Point park opposite the village's caravan park.
The council's landscape architect Ian Bentley said the feedback from community was vital because the park was so important to people living in and around Hastings Point.
“This plan has been on the boil for a while,” Mr Bentley said.
“I suppose the most difficult part about the process is meeting the community's expectation,” he said. “We don't want to ruin it with what we put in – you don't want it to be over-designed.”
Mr Bentley said the biggest change to the park was to move a shelter to open up the park and create a clear space for ball games.
The council's recreation services manager, Stewart Brawley, said the upgrade was designed to complement the existing natural features of the park and not compete with the views or relaxed location and creek accessibility.
“The upgrade would encourage a wider user group through accessible pathways and new infra- structure to serve the community well for at least another 20 years,” Mr Brawley said.
The plan, on the council's website, has the support of the Hastings Point Progress Association.
Secretary Julie Boyd said the association was “happy with the initial concept and looked forward to the next stage.”
