Hearty plan to snare Coast tourists
MURWILLUMBAH is all heart.
Well, that's what the town's latest tourist marketing campaign is banking on.
Murwillumbah and District Business Chamber yesterday launched its new assault on the lucrative Gold Coast tourist market (see story, Page 1).
They've firmly positioned themselves as the proud “Heart of the Tweed” in a series of special advertisements, aiming to lure visitors further south and into the Tweed Shire.
It's a shame that the idea didn't get off the ground when it was originally suggested in 2000, but the timing couldn't be better now.
With the eyes of the world's media now upon Tweed for the Repco Rally Australia, it's the perfect time for a re-branding.
While to the uninitiated tourist Tweed Heads may feel like an extension of the Gold Coast, Murwillumbah really does have its own unique charm and appeal.
It's worth marketing that and trying to attract both international and domestic tourists further past the border.
After all, any idea designed to tap into the Gold Coast's successful tourist market and send visitors our way is more than welcome.
