Felting adds shape to fashion parade
SPRING fever is in the air and four Tweed women have taken the opportunity to unveil their wearable art creations.
The Fascinating Fibres - Spring Wearable Art Fashion Parade and Luncheon will be held on Thursday, September 22, at Mavis's Kitchen, Mt Warning, and the designers promise guests they are in for a taste of the exquisite.
Christine Burgess, Linda Clark, Helen McEwin and Michelle McQuay met at a felting course last year and have pooled their creative powers to create this unique event.
"I fell in love with the whole process of felting; turning the fibre into a malleable material that can be sculpted and shaped," said Ms Burgess.
"I started out making hats, lots of them and then realised I could introduce other fabrics like wool or silk or muslin, to create beautiful dresses."
Group mentor Michelle McQuay has inspired her fellow designers to create the wearable art showcase.
"I ended up buying a beautiful house in the Tweed Valley that had belonged to a felter," said Ms McQuay.
"Somehow, felting became an obsession - how it works, the shrinking, the designing and the surprise of the finished garment."
