Festival of Surfing 2009 - Day 1
Festival director Phil Jarratt said the light onshore breezes throughout the day and two to three feet swell had provided an excellent start to the festival which runs until March 22.
About 600 surfers and an expected 5000 spectators will be hitting the beach and joining in the festivities of what is shaping up as one of the biggest festivals yet.
Mr Jarratt said it had been a great start to the festival.
"The serious surfing begins on Monday where the pros take to the waves, but today has been a wonderful family event and we've had fantastic weather.
"It's all been about having fun."
Monday's schedule includes:
7am-5.30pm - Men's and Women's Pro Surfing (First Point or Access 12)
3-5pm - Competitor Registration (Golden Breed Store)
7pm - Noosa 5 Cinemas, Back Beach and Bombora present the world premiere of 'Searching for Michael Peterson', live music with Peter Howe and Tim Gaze, and a sneak peek at World Contest Puerto Rico 1968 (a rediscovered classic). (Tickets are now sold out.)
