Festive season has already hit stores

IT MIGHT only be September but that hasn't stopped the shops from going Christmas crazy with decorations now ready to buy in store.

A local shopper recently discovered decorations for sale in our local retail stores which had us at the NewsMail office asking - is it too early for the festive season?

We took the question to Facebook and had a mixed response from readers.

Some were not impressed with the early Christmas stock, claiming shops needed to hold back a few more months.

"Woolworths put Christmas puddings, minced pies etc out last Wednesday. This is ridiculous, this is greed. Christmas lights are a different story. Christmas food doesn't need to be out three months before. Gift shopping can be done all year, this is different...just like the hot cross buns out on new year day ... thats greed," Heidi Duthler said.

Others were all for an early festive season, stating that it was a good opportunity to get ahead of the busy shopping times.

"I love Christmas. Having Christmas stuff out now gives people a chance to be organised well in advance. My christmas shopping is almost done," Angela Bauer said.

"Well I've been known to have my christmas tree up in october so this doesn't bother me besides, many people start preparing for christmas now. Especially those paid fortnightly or even monthly," Bec Keirnan said.

One thing is certain, whether you like it or not, Christmas is coming and it is coming fast.
