Extended trading hours in Tweed

SHOPPING centres around the Tweed will be giving Santa a helping hand next week when they extend their trading hours.

Centro Tweed, Tweed City Shopping Centre and Sunnyside Shopping Mall will be open late next Wednesday for any last-minute shoppers.

The Donovan family were finishing off some Christmas shopping yesterday at Centro Tweed.

“It’s always hard to get things done at this time of the year,” mother-of-two Tricia said.

“The extended shopping hours really help out.”

Target at Centro Tweed is already staying open late and the rest of the stores will follow suit next week.

Centro Tweed’s late night trading will be on next Wednesday, with specialty stores open until 9pm and Coles, Target and Woolworths open until midnight.

On Thursday, Christmas Eve, all stores will close at 5.30pm, except Target at 6pm and Coles and Woolworths at 10pm.

Tweed City Shopping Centre will be open until midnight next Wednesday, marketing manager Jessica Hitchin said.

“Roving entertainment, Cadbury giveaways and a competition will be held on the evening to create an exciting atmosphere,” Ms Hitchin said.

“Crowds swell in the lead up the Christmas, with December always being the centre’s biggest traffic month.

“Christmas Eve is a high volume day, however I would expect similar numbers from Monday, December 21, this year due to Christmas day taking place on a Friday.”

Despite the economic downturn, Ms Hitchin said she has no doubt the spirit of Christmas is alive in Tweed City and the wider community. Tweed City will close at 9pm on Monday and Tuesday and 6pm on Christmas Eve.

Sunnyside Shopping Mall in Murwillumbah has already extended its trading hours until 9pm.

The mall will be open from 7am to midnight on Wednesday and 7am to 9pm on Christmas Eve.

All three shopping centres will be closed on Christmas day.
