Fiery calendars for good cause

THERE'S a lot more to the Queensland Fire Service calendar than oiled bodies and overalls.

Over the last few years, firefighters stripped down and volunteers braving the shopping centres have raised $750,000 for the children's burns unit at the Royal Brisbane Children's Hospital.

Southport firefighter Darryl Hurley was on duty today at Tweed City Shopping Centre selling the famous calendars for $10 a piece.

He'll then do the night shift as a firefighter, but he doesn't mind the long hours if it's in the name of charity.

"I'm on duty tonight and I don't get paid for this, it's all for charity so those of us who can put our hands up," Mr Hurley said.

The calendars have been on sale since late August and will continue to sell until Christmas.

The Queensland Fire Service will have a stall at Tweed City Shopping Centre until the end of the week.
