Film festival to screen at Mur’bah’s Regent Cinema

THE Regent Cinema in Murwillumbah will showcase a variety of flicks from the 7th annual Byron Bay International Film Festival in early March.

Movie buffs will get a chance to kick back, relax and enjoy 16 movies from independent film makers.

Included are some interesting gems, including the Equinox Farm, Make Hummus Not War and the acclaimed South African film Otelo Burning, which explores the joy of surfing amongst a backdrop of social change and political conflict.

Byron Bay Film Festival director J'aimee Skippon-Volkesaid the Regent Cinema provided the perfect setting for the screenings.

"The Murwillumbah region is so lucky to have this wonderful boutique, art house venue that combines a beautiful heritage cinema with the latest technology. We're thrilled to partner with its new owners and build on last year's screenings with this amazingly strong and diverse 2013 program, and to allow audiences to meet the filmmakers," she said.

Ms Skippon-Volke said last year's Murwillumbah screenings drew a lot of interest from the local community and beyond and this year was expected to be no different.

"Last year the Murwillumbah community and surrounding regions heading over the Queensland border really embraced this festival. It's a very environmentally conscious community, interested in social issues, and one that loves everything from the quirky to the traditional. We hope our program reflects this and everyone will find something they'll really enjoy," she said.

The array of films will premiere from March 8 to March 10 and tickets are on sale at www.bbff.com.au, where a program is also available.
