Fingal's new facilities open

FINGAL Head Public School was the place to be yesterday with the official opening of a new library and refurbished classrooms.

The school received $850,000 for its new library, together with further funding for refurbishment of classrooms and adminis- tration areas.

All these resources were delivered as part of the Gillard Government's Building the Education Revolution (BER).

Federal MP for Richmond Justine Elliot congratulated Fingal Head Public school on its new facilities and spoke of the benefit to both the school and local community.

“These projects provide valuable learning opportunities for our children and provided employment opportunities for many local workers,” Mrs Elliot said.

“The BER has given schools like Fingal Head Public School the resources they need to help ensure that our children can con- tinue to receive a quality education provided by our hard-working teachers in our local schools

“It has been fantastic to see the principal, teachers, parents and tradespeople working together to deliver these important projects for our children. With the completion of these projects, teachers and students can now make use of the 21st century facilities they so richly deserve,” said Mrs Elliot.

Fingal Head Public School principal Matthew Jacobson said the new library and refurbished classrooms had opened up a new world of learning for students.

“Having video conferencing in the classroom is amazing; it has really

taken us in a new direction,” Mr Jacobson said.

“The students have been able to do interesting things like interview a Holocaust survivor live over the system.

“We are thrilled with the outcome. It makes teaching fun.”
