Fingal park officially open

FINGAL Head has received a major upgrade to its playground and amenities.

The new Fingal boat harbour was officially opened by Tweed Shire Mayor Kevin Skinner yesterday.

Councillor Skinner said the refurbishment was wonderful for a park which had long been a popular attraction for families.

“The harbour provides a safe place to swim and it is a particularly beautiful location on the Tweed River,” Cr Skinner said.

“However, infrastructure at the park had passed its use-by-date.

“Council is extremely grateful to the Federal Government for its $150,000 contribution to the project.”

Richmond MP Justine Elliot, who was also at the official launch, is a resident of Fingal Head and visited the area on the weekend.

“On the weekend I actually brought my kids down here – they’re 12 and 10 and they grew up with the old park and they were just absolutely amazed,” Ms Elliot said.

She said the project was a boon for residents and also supported jobs locally and would continue to do so through ongoing maintenance and services.
