Fire danger is always present at this time of year
TWEED residents will have noticed the presence of ample fuel capable of feeding bushfires in the region.
Temperatures reached 31° today and although forecasts indicate the region may be in for some isolated showers over the next few days, the risk of bushfires shouldn't be underestimated.
Rural Fire Service Inspector Bob Wilcox said the area might be green at the moment but there was plenty of fuel and it would not take long to dry out.
"Our approach is to restrict fire permits as much as possible and we advise people to take extreme care, apply for a permit if they do need to burn anything and follow all requirements," Insp Wilcox said
"We're not performing any fire hazard reductions at the moment as it's too late in the season and therefore dangerous.
"We usually do our back burning in the cooler months.
"The last thing we want to do is cause a fire because of our backburning."
