Fire forces evacuation of 50 from karaoke club, hostel

FIREFIGHTERS have extinguished a blaze in Sydney's inner west that forced the evacuation of 50 people from a karaoke club and backpacker hostel.

The fire broke out at the back of the karaoke club on Burwood Rd, Burwood, on Friday  about 5am and quickly spread next door to the hostel.

Superintendent Ian Krimmer of Fire and Rescue NSW said 50 people were evacuated as a result of the blaze including two who were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and taken to hospital.

He said 30 firefighters worked to bring the blaze under control and it was extinguished a short time later.

Investigations into the cause of the fire are continuing.
