Fire guts Elanora home

FIRE investigation teams are searching for the cause of a fire that gutted a two-storey house in Elanora this morning.

Fire fighters from Burleigh Heads, Bilinga, Robina, Surfers Paradise and a specialist truck from Brisbane, were called around 8.15am (Qld) to find the Exmouth Ct house well alight.

Bilinga station officer John McGhee said no one was in the home at the time, but fire fighters had initially thought a house-bound resident may have been trapped.

"On our initial arrival we couldn't ascertain if the house was empty or not," Mr McGhee said.

"We knew one of the residents was home bound and we completed a thorough search of both levels of the house.

"Police then located the person at a relatives house, that was a huge relief."

Neighbours gathered in the street this morning surrounded by three fire trucks, ambulance paramedics and police officers.

Mr McGhee said the owner had been notified and was on their way home.
