Firies seek video footage of blaze
TWEED firefighters were seeking video footage of a boat fire on the Tweed River last Saturday.
Station officer Leo Ayoub said the footage could help establish the cause of the blaze.
“There was 100 litres of diesel on that boat and it was destroyed,” Mr Ayoub said.
“There was someone on a small boat who was taking video footage adjacent to the yacht when it was burning.
“We want to take a look at that footage.”
While fire investigations continued to determine the cause of the fire, salvage work has begun.
Most of the yacht, True Blue, remained above the water, however the yacht was sitting on the riverbed and required salvaging.
The yacht caught alight about 11am, forcing a 42-year-old man to jump for his life before the entire vessel was engulfed in flames.
After firefighters extinguished the blaze, NSW Maritime towed the yacht to shallow water in the river before it went down.
A NSW Maritime spokeswoman said staff had placed booms around the wreckage.
“We are monitoring the wreckage closely for any further safety hazards,” the spokeswoman said.
“We have been in contact with the owners.
“The owner is already taking steps to remove the wreckage.”
Anyone with video footage of the fire on True Blue should contact Tweed Fire Station on 07 5536 2222.
