First drive-through for Banora Point?

BANORA Point could have its first drive-through, after the owners of Caltex, on the corner of Darlington and Leisure Drs, filed a development application for a refurbishment, including a new McDonald's restaurant.

Jim Glazebrook, consultant for Ballina-based Gemspark Pty Ltd, said the company initially applied for a simpler refurbishment, which was approved in 2011.

He said after a few changes, including the addition of McDonald's, they opted to go through the entire DA process again.

The proposed changes will see the demolition of a disused workshop building, to make room for a drive-thru.

"Workshops in service stations these days are a thing of the past," Mr Glaze-brook said.

If approved, the project is expected to cost $1.6 million.
