First time not a charm for young Toowoomba ice user

THE very first time he used the drug "ice" Corey Jack Plowman was pulled over by police who found him with the drug.

Plowman had been a passenger in a car pulled over by police on McDougall St, Wilsonton, on August 19, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard.

Asked if anyone had anything to declare, the 23-year-old told police he had some items of interest in his bag.

A search of the bag found a small plastic clip seal bag containing a crystalline substance which Plowman admitted was methylamphetamine and an ice pipe for smoking the drug, police prosecutor Senior Constable Alistair Windsor told the court.

Plowman pleaded guilty to possessing a dangerous drug and a drug utensil.

He also pleaded guilty to having 7.25g of "green leafy material" which he said was marijuana found during a police search of his then Jimboomba home on July 3 and to possessing a home-made water pipe for smoking it.

Plowman told police he had earlier bought a larger quantity of the drug, some of which he had given to associates which brought about a charge of supplying a dangerous drug.

His solicitor Claire Graham said her client instructed he was an occasional user of marijuana but it had been the first time he had tried "ice" and he had no intention of using the drug again.

Her client was charged with supplying a dangerous drug on his own admissions to police, she submitted.

Magistrate Damian Carroll said it was of concern that Plowman had a previous drug offence and that his drug use was "escalating" having gone from marijuana to methylamphetamine.

Plowman, who told the court he was now living in Pimpama on the Gold Coast, was placed on 12 months probation to include random testing for illicit drugs with the conviction not recorded.
