Justine Elliot snaps up Olley original - tribute that is
RICHMOND MP Justine Elliot has bought an original Margaret Olley to hang up in the boardroom - an original tribute that is.
The tribute was painted by Pete Goodlet of Murwillumbah.
She purchased the artwork at Mr Goodlet's show opening, held on Monday, March 31 at Sugar Beat Cafe, in Murwillumbah.
"It was a fabulous night with a full house attendance," Mr Goodlet said.
Ms Elliot gave a speech to 50 attendees, to open the exhibition.
"She spoke about how joyful my work was and how lucky the region was to have me using my talents, to capture the essence of Murwillumbah and the Tweed," Mr Goodlet said.
On the night, Margaret Olley on the Tweed River went for an undisclosed sum, along with three other Goodlet pieces.
The 14-piece collection will be on show at the cafe until April 25.
Its theme is in Goodlet's signature, colourful naive style
Fans are eagerly awaiting Goodlet's forthcoming artworks, also set in the Tweed.
"I'm painting more Olley scenes, featuring her close friends Barry Humphries and Quentin Bryce," he said.
