Five-day longboarding fest at Kingscliff
AUSTRALIA'S richest longboarding event, the Australian Longboard Surfing Open (ALSO), fires up at Kingscliff from Wednesday.
This year's five-day event will showcase the best longboarders in the world with both men's and women's current world champions surfing.
Kingscliff surfer Mick Gett hopes to reach the final rounds.
"Every surfer wants to make it to the final six, I'd be stoked just to make the final round," Mr Gett said.
"I enjoy trying my best each year and catching up with mates that travel from interstate just to be a part of this comp."
Mr Gett started surfing at the age of 10 in Manly where he grew up.
"Surfing just becomes a part of your life, I love being in the water especially with my mates," he said.
"I enjoy travelling up and down the east coast to different comps at great surf spots, it's a lifestyle for me now."
Locals usually perform well at this event as Kingscliff can be a tricky wave at times.
"If the sweep is running it can be difficult to stay in the line-up, local knowledge is an advantage."
International and national surfers will be competing, like Harley Ingleby of Emerald Beach and Coolangatta's Chelsea Williams, who regularly hone their skills at the Australian Longboard Surfing and head the list of competitors.
Recently crowned European Longboard Champion Edouard Delpero, is another international who has confirmed to compete.
Chinese national champion Zhuang Tie is also among the competitors who are confirmed to compete at Kingscliff in 2015.
As well as surfing there will be live music, surf vehicle display, Miss Beach Girl competition, surf films, yoga, art and lifestyle stalls for visitors to the event.
