Five fab things to do on the Tweed this weekend
Bumper crowd tipped for Banana Festival
THE Tweed Valley Banana Festival has an array of interesting events on offer at Murwillumbah on Saturday, including the main parade, a Knox Park based family fun day and the crowning of the king and queen of the festival.
One of the longest running events in the Tweed, the Banana Festival will likely attract a strong crowd for the 12pm parade, which is one of the key events in the Murwillumbah calendar. Visit bananafestival.org for more information about the festival.
Tyalgum mart's the place to be on Saturday
Tyalgum Village Market will be held on Saturday at Bruce Bartrim Oval, Tyalgum, offering woodwork, silver jewellery, weaving, handmade candles, restored furniture and more.
The relaxed handmade artisan and craft market will be held from 10am to 3pm and live music will also be on offer throughout the day.
Visit tyalgumvillagemarket.com or contact Treni on 0416 019 757 for more information.
Catch a movie at Tweed City shopping centre
Sit down, kick back and enjoy popcorn and a movie at Hoyts Cinema in Tweed City Shopping Centre. Movies on offer this weekend include Elysium, We're the Millers and family flicks Turbo and Wiggles: Pumpkin Face. Visit hoyts.com.au for movie session times and more information about what's on offer.
Beaut beaches await with our sunny weather
Now that the weather is heating up it's as good a time as any to check out some of the Tweed Shire's beaches. Head to Kingscliff, Pottsville or Cabarita for fun in the sun at some of the best beaches on the coast; but make sure they are patrolled. Or check out Jack Evans Boat Harbour or Cudgen Creek for calm water perfect for the kids to have a splash.
Croquet's the hit event at Tweed Spring Festival
For something a little different this weekend check out the Tweed Heads Croquet Spring Festival.
The Spring Festival, which runs until Monday, offers a croquet tournament, ricochet and golf croquet and will be held at 39 Recreation St, Tweed Heads.
For more information contact Kerry Michael on 0424 133 122 or email tweedheads@croquetqld.org.
