Flames '9 metres high' at Byron Bay shed fire
A WITNESS described seeing flames reach nine metres high in a fire at Byron Bay's Arts and Industry Estate on Saturday morning after a timber shed caught alight.
Richard Crabbe said he saw fire and heard cracking sounds in the building.
"Some smoke, come up here and a lot of electrical cracking, the flames were up above the building ... (they were) above the building over there," he said.
"Pretty big flames and made a nice mess."
The contents of a timber shed and some other materials at the site were destroyed by the fire according to NSW Fire Brigade.
Units from Byron Bay backed up by Bangalow, attended the scene after being notified at 9.19am.
The fire was brought under control a short time after that.
Units did return to the scene after the fire reignited around 3.20pm in the afternoon and the fire was extinguished.
An air-conditioning unit was also partially damaged in the blaze.
