Floating marina office moves to dry land

GREAT Sandy Straits Marina has decided to move its floating office onto dry land on Buccaneer Dr in Urangan.

The business will now manage the neighbouring shops and the marina.

Manager Debbie Rafter said the move was made to make the business feel more professional.

"We're still the warm and welcoming business we were before, but now we look more formal up here than we did down on the water," Ms Rafter said.

The business looks after 176 marina berths from eight to 30m long and always welcomed visitors.

Ms Rafter said business had improved since the office move, which allowed the company to expand.

"We're managing the surrounding building as well, which means we've brought more businesses here," she said.

"The whole area is more welcoming for unfamiliar visitors now.

"We still offer showers and amenities to visitors, but now we've also got a healing centre and an arts and craft shop."

Ms Rafter said stores leasing the building were marketing to visitors from boats.

"We've got the Merging Souls healing centre for people who might need some help relaxing," she said.

"And Pieces by Design will be opening on April 1 and has really interesting craft and art which will be perfect for gifts the visitors can take with them."

The marina business has one more shop to fill in the building, and Ms Rafter said she believed the more businesses and employment in the area, the better.
