Memories of jolly times at Myer
TWEED Heads once had a Myer store that stretched two blocks.
"It was huge," said former advertising and promotions manager for the store, Bob Close.
"It's hard to imagine, but we had 180 employees in our store at one stage."
Former staff members will come together in February next year for a 25th reunion.
It's set to be a hoot if some of their previous festivities are anything to go by.
"We had some great times dressing up for promotions," Mr Close said.
"I once dressed up as Grouch Marx and did some spruiking during a stocktake sale.
"We often got dressed up as our favourite characters."
The store had huge fashion parades that brought in the likes of TV personalities Bernard King and Jackie McDonald.
"Everyone joined in, with staff doing some modelling," Mr Close said.
"It was a magic time and we had a special bond.
"We all had a lot of fun.
"That's why our staff reunions are so important.
"You have to keep the flag flying or things just die out.
"Some of us are getting on in age, so we need to make the most of these get-togethers now."
Mr Close said he has held two major jobs in his lifetime.
"Working at Myer was definitely the best," he said.
"I've never experienced such camaraderie in any other workplace."
Mr Close said there was always much to talk about at the reunions.
"The 20th anniversary reunion was great, with about 200 people coming.
"It was great to swap stories from the past."
The reunion is set for February 4, 2012 at Signatures restaurant, Twin Towns Services Club at 7pm (NSW).
