Church takes over food giveaway

BANORA Point pensioner advocate Terri Bradley is handing over the reins of her weekly grocery giveaway to a Gold Coast church.

Storehouse One, which operates out of Elevation Church in Varsity Lakes, will now run the weekly event out of the Tweed Heads PCYC, on the corner of Florence and Adelaide streets.

It begins on Monday from 10.30am to 12.30pm and will continue each Monday.

Ms Bradley, who will hold her last grocery giveaway for pensioners today from 1pm, said she was happy to see her grocery giveaway be taken over by such a supportive group.

“This is a great time not only for me but for the pensioners of the area,” Ms Bradley said.

“They will be getting a shopping experience that is sorely needed here.

“Until the government gives us enough to live on, this will be only way we can eat without robbing Peter to pay Paul.”

Storehouse One manager Andy Backhouse praised Ms Bradley on her efforts for the Tweed pensioner community.

“Terri has done such a wonderful job down and been we’ve been supporting her with groceries ,” Mr Backhouse said.

“We will be giving out some things free and have a small fee for other items.

“There will be fruits, vegetables and cereals; all essential groceries for the pantry.”

Mr Backhouse said the goal was to open a warehouse similar to Storehouse One.
