Foreteller confirmed for Cup run

TOP Sydney trainer Chris Waller says he has given up looking for reasons not to run Foreteller in Tuesday's $6 million Melbourne Cup, confirming yesterday the seven-year-old would line up next week.

Foreteller has never won beyond 2000m, but was a fast-finishing fourth behind Shamus Award in Saturday's Group 1 Cox Plate (2050m) at Moonee Valley.

"It was a cracking run on Saturday in the Cox Plate," Waller said after trackwork at Flemington yesterday.

"Okay, will he run a genuine two miles is the question. Saintly went from a Cox Plate to winning a Melbourne Cup with a doubt on him staying.

"I know the horse was trained by a genius (Bart Cummings), but I am just hoping Foreteller could do exactly what Saintly did."

Melbourne jockey Craig Newitt is likely to take the ride on Foreteller who was listed at $31 with Tattsbet yesterday.

Waller also has Hawkspur engaged in the race and the four-year-old, who finished strongly for seventh behind Fawkner in the Caulfield Cup, worked strongly on the course proper.
