Former Can-Do adviser among six confirmed Qld Senators

A FORMER adviser to the LNP during Premier Campbell Newman's election campaign was confirmed as one of Queensland's six new Senators on Wednesday.

The adviser, James McGrath, also played a key role in the Country Liberals victory in the Northern Territory a year ago.

He will join another LNP newcomer in Matthew Canavan, who was confirmed as the sixth Queensland Senator.

A former economist at the Productivity Commission, Mr Canavan earned his political stripes as chief of staff to then-Senator Barnaby Joyce.

The Australian Electoral Commission also confirmed former rugby star Glenn Lazarus as the Palmer United Party's latest addition to the Senate team and Labor's Chris Ketter.

Incumbents, the LNP's Ian Macdonald and Labor's Claire Moore were also confirmed on Wednesday.
