Former Cooly Blues player in AFL preliminary final

DAVID Hale will line up for the Hawthorn football club on Friday night in the AFL preliminary final against Geelong.

It's a long way from his humble beginnings at the Coolangatta Blues football club.

The AFL website says, "The former Kangaroo averaged almost 23 hit-outs a game and pushed forward to rank second at the club in contested marks and boot 24 goals. His ability to switch between the two positions has made him the ideal ruckman in the sub rule era."

David debuted for the North Melbourne football club in 2003 after being drafted at the pick seven in the 2001 AFL national draft.

After 10 years at North Melbourne he was traded to Hawthorn for the Hawks compensation pick for Campbell Brown (and pick 71)who now plays at the Gold Coast Suns.

With family and friends still living in the Tweed area there will be plenty of people still here to cheer him on.
