Former Jackass star is a song and stunt man

STEVE-O is a surprising character.

For a man who has snorted wasabi, had a shark hook jabbed through his cheek and stapled his male parts to a bench, the former Jackass star is actually quite mellow.

Of course while speaking of his new TV show, Killer Karaoke, the 38-year-old stuntman did not bite his tongue, slipping in the occasional swear word and loosely-put adjectives such as, "it was good not to be the one breaking bones and shoving things up my butt".

But then a softer spoken Steve-O emerges, speaking of surfing, being a vegan and views on animal cruelty.

"I'm big into taking care of myself these days," Steve-O said.

"Eating healthy, exercising and taking care of my body has never been more important.

"It is a new me, you could say."

Killer Karaoke - The Comedy Channel -Sunday at 7.30pm

As the host of The Comedy Channel's new show, Killer Karaoke, Steve-O laughs along with the crowd as contestants are challenged to perform their favourite songs in extreme and outrageous circumstances.

Stunts include being dunked into an ice-cold water tank filled with snakes, receiving a face full of pigeons, getting their butt-crack waxed and being attacked by dangerous dogs.

A favourite moment of Steve-O's was a man attempting to sing Hard to Handle by Otis Redding while serving food and being continuously electrocuted.

"This one was funny, especially because no animals were involved in the stunts," he said.

"It was just purely hilarious to see this guy dropping sh*t everywhere as he was electrocuted."

Although, ironically, Steve-O had no input to the stunts performed and instead said that he "basically got to watch other people do dumb sh*t".

"The best part was rocking up to work, watching the set be put together and then I just got to host," he said.

"It was a whole new experience for me and it was fun."

Currently touring the US for his comedy show, Steve-O said he had started working on his own television series, but could not release too many details just yet.

"I have a couple of other things in pipeline," he said.

"It is going to be funny, people will like it, I think it's freakin' hilarious so everyone is just going to have to wait and see."

This week though, Steve-O is taking a well-deserved break to the Maldives.

"Surfing is pretty much my favourite thing to do these days, it's going to be insane going to the Maldives," he said.

"You don't get much time to do this sort of thing when you're on tour, so it will be nice to get away for a bit."
