Former lifesaver accused of molesting girls given bail

A FORMER lifesaver has faced a Gold Coast court accused of 16 counts of molesting underaged girls.

The middle-aged tradesman who once patrolled a popular tourist beach and served on the board of a youth club is accused of having inappropriate relations with three girls - the daughters of family friends.

He was arrested on the weekend and charged with three counts of rape and 13 counts of indecently dealing with children under 12.

Under the law his name cannot be published until he is committed for trial.

Yesterday the Southport Magistrates Court was told the girls were now aged 14, 13, and 11 but some of the allegations were three years old.
