Four people survive head-on collision without serious injury

FOUR people, involved in a head-on collision at Tumbulgum on Thursday are lucky to have walked away from the crash without serious injury.

Two adults and two young children were involved in the crash which occurred on Dulguigan Rd.

Tweed/Byron Local Area Command Acting Inspector Leanne Edmonds said emergency services were called to the scene at 11.15pm.

"A male person in a Toyota Land Cruiser was heading north," she said.

"He said he swerved to avoid an object on the road and collided with another vehicle travelling south."

The 39-year-old female driver of the other vehicle suffered chest pains and was transported by ambulance to Tweed Hospital.

Her 11-year-old son and 8-year-old-daughter were also transported with minor non-life-threatening injuries.

An ambulance spokeswoman said the young girl suffered a head wound and the male 54-year-old driver of the Land Cruiser sustained a knee and shoulder injury.

All were in a stable condition.

"One of the vehicles caught alight and was extinguished by police," Acting Insp Edmonds said.

"It was a small engine fire in the silver Prado."
