Little girl in the pink headband proves an inspiration
FOUR-year-old cutie Alana Reid makes a habit of bringing adults to tears.
Sometimes it's her innocence. Sometimes it's her strength.
The Bundaberg girl and her family began a campaign last August, hoping to raise enough funds so Alana can have an operation and hear unaided for the first time in her short life.
They are about $26,000 short of that goal now, and they leave for treatment in America on August 13.
Last weekend, it was Linda Bretherton's turn to be moved by the little girl in the pink headband, at a fundraising event for the Burrum District Active Riders group at Torbanlea.
"She had me in tears," Ms Bretherton, treasurer of the group, said.
"We got her to present the trophies from the sports fundraising event to everybody at the end of the day and she did that, and then she had ride on a pony.
"She went up to this little white pony and she gave it a kiss and a cuddle - it was just so cute."
Alana's mum Emma said the family remained hopeful of raising the additional money needed to reach the goal amount before leaving for the states.
