France upset Opals
THE Australian Opals have lost the second match of their Olympic campaign after falling to an over-time 74-70 loss to France.
A scrappy Opals performance had the Australians down by 11 points at one time, but the world number two side managed to claw its way back into the match.
However, a determined French team kept the Opals at bay and looked to have the game sealed at 65-62 with only seconds to play.
But the Australians pulled off a miracle to keep the game alive, landing a downtown three-point speculator at the death, sparking celebrations which were more akin to a famous victory.
The Opals entered over-time without superstar Lauren Jackson, fouled out of the game, and failed to build on their second chance, France outscoring the Australians 9-5 to record a famous victory.
