Fraser: Coalition spending cuts won’t affect Kennedy Dr

IN A final bid to grab your vote Nationals Richmond candidate Matthew Fraser has pulled the Kennedy Dr card out again.

Mr Fraser, along with Nationals leader and Federal Shadow Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Warren Truss, stood on the side of the road showing the people of Richmond they've got $3.3 million to fix the infamously bad road, if Mr Fraser gets voted in.

This morning, Mr Fraser promised the money for Kennedy Dr was a sure thing despite the coalition figures stating they would cut $2.5billion from regional infrastructure.

The proposed re-allocation would move the funds from infrastructure projects in areas like Richmond to city-centric projects including the $1.5 billion WestConnex link in Sydney.

"My understanding is the cuts would be from promises made by Labor," he said.

"It's a guarantee because I am part of the Coalition."

Palmer United Party candidate Phil Allen said his party would also be assessing Kennedy Dr and if they got in they could fix it for a lot less than the Coalition could.

"It's chalk and cheese," he said.

"It isn't a case of just throwing money toward it."

Independent Kevin Skinner said no matter who got in it was an area that needed major attention and he would be "pestering the hell out of them" to put money toward it.

Despite preferencing Palmer United Party and then the Nationals, Mr Skinner said he "supports whoever is going to get the job done".

Labor MP Justine Elliot said the Nationals cutting on regional infastructure was only typical.

"This is what we have come to expect from The Nationals; it just shows that The Nationals will only make cuts on the North Coast," she said.

"You only have to look at the State Nationals to see their long list of failed promises." My Daily News contacted the two other candidates earlier today and is awaiting their response.
