Fresh idea on produce has merit
THE idea of a food swap may be old hat in Victoria, but it's very new here - and what a fresh approach to getting hold of local produce.
It seems almost unbelievable that after many years, and ongoing attempts, to set up a farmers' market here we still can't seem to get one across the line.
But when the community wants something badly enough, it will always find a way.
This is a baby step towards the sharing around of the produce we are surrounded by in Queensland's "food bowl".
I am sure there are countless green-fingered residents with a surplus of some fruit or vegetable who will be very glad to swap it for something different.
And if you don't, a gold coin donation will suffice to buy some choice veges or fruit.
So until we get our long-awaited farmers' market, let's get behind this food swap and share around the bounty which our rich, red soil brings us.
It may even sow the seeds of a real farmers' market. Then everyone would win - growers and consumers alike.
