Fun day for all the family
EVERY year record numbers flock to the Tweed Valley Easter Fun Day and this year is no exception with large numbers expected to attend the free event.
Held at the Hosanna Farm at Stokers Siding, the fun day on Anzac Day, has increased in popularity every year since its inception three years ago.
“The first year we had 700, last year we had about 1700 and this year we are expecting about 2000
people; it's fantastic,” Jennie Parratt, event organiser, said.
“It's become something that people really love to attend and they are coming back every year.”
The focus of the event is wholesome entertainment for young families as well as activities aimed at teenagers and young adults.
“We have so much happening on the day,” Mrs Parratt said.
“We've got old-fashioned games which are really popular such as the egg-and-spoon race, sack races and tug-of-war, and then there's didgeridoo players, damper making, stilt walking, story telling, face painting, farm tours; the list goes on.”
This year the event's organisers are taking advantage of the close proximity of Easter with Anzac Day and will have a re-enactment of the much-loved story of Private Simpson and his donkey.
“We will have Simpson and the donkey walking around all day so children can have rides, and then later in the day we will have an actor come in to perform and retell the story,” Mrs Parratt said.
All activities on the day are free and begin at midday, running until 4pm.
