Mr Lee is recovering after being bitten on his legs by a great white shark while bodyboarding at Ballina in July.

He suffered major nerve damage to his legs and partner Suzy Gerada has said he faces a "long road" to recovery.

Mr Lee has received massive community support, ranging from fundraising events such as the one planned for Shaws Bay to Tweed Heads surfer Mick Fanning announcing he would donate $75,000 to him. Mr Fanning received the $75,000 from Channel 9 for an interview about fighting off a great white in South Africa.

"With the community backing him all the way, it will make his recovery easier," Ms Gerada has said previously.

"Mat and I are blown away by the community's support and will be forever grateful for the donations and contributions."
