Fundraisers pink with success
CURRUMBIN women are painting the town pink and doing more than their share for cancer research.
The Queensland Cancer Council was given a donation of more than $10,000 last week, from the Currumbin committee responsible for the Dash in Pink fundraiser.
Cancer Council representative Margot Fraser said the money, which was raised at the charity beach event in October, would go towards breast cancer research and support, and early detection programs.
“The effort by these ladies is phenomenal,” Ms Fraser said.
Dash in Pink committee member and breast cancer survivor Teena Dutton said the other half of the $19,600 raised from the annual Dash in Pink beach sprint would be donated to the Currumbin Surf Life Saving Club Junior Development program.
“It’s really great to have an opportunity to give something back to the community,” she said.
Dash in Pink committee organiser Anne Owen said having almost reached the $20,000 mark showed what the Currumbin community could do when it worked together.
