Fur ‘so last season'

AS the weather cools, dogs all over the Tweed are preparing their winter coats.

But at the Best Friends' Pet Super Centre at Tweed Heads South last weekend, Tweed's finest pups swaggered, pranced and paraded the 'dogwalk' dressed in much more than just their birthday suits.

The fashion parade was held to model Purina Wagwear dog coats.

The 2012 winter fashions featured detachable hoods, polar-fleece lining and, wait for it, poo-bag pockets.

More than 30 fashion-forward furry models and their faithful owners participated last Saturday.

Best Friends marketing manager Alex Baily said the event had both fun and practical themes.

"We like to have fun at Best Friends and celebrate the joys of owning a pet," Ms Baily said.

"The fashion parades gave our customers the opportunity to have fun with their pets for a very practical reason.

"Dogs can feel the cold when they're out walking in the winter months.

"We've just launched our new Wagwear coats, which are made for different occasions, including inclement weather."

Best Friends opened in Tweed Heads in 2011.

It offers a full range of pet care products and services, including pet hospitals, grooming salons, puppy school and adoption, plus pet-friendly facilities across the store, including special 'woops' stations for any unfortunate accidents.
