Fusing the best of Tweed to showcase region
GET your diaries out: from opera in the tea gardens to dinner overlooking the Pacific Ocean at Hastings Point, this year's Tweed Fusion is not to be missed.
A festival aimed at showing off the best of the Tweed's scenery as well as the region's spectacular food, music and arts, Tweed Fusion will run across nine days from October 22-30.
The third outing of the annual festival, this year's edition promises to be bigger and better than ever, with 12 events planned across the region.
Organiser Anne Duke said the festival, run in conjunction with Destination Tweed, was aimed at bringing locals to work in collaboration under one umbrella, to showcase all the Tweed has to offer.
"We are trying to create a program that resonates with a broad audience,” Ms Duke said. "The idea is to offer a lot of intimate experiences, to try to create a quintessential Tweed experience.”
The festival will kick off on Saturday, October 22 with a harp and flute recital followed by a high tea at the House of Gabriel at Tumbulgum.
It will move to Hastings Point later that day, with an evening of good food and live music at tables set up on the headland. Other events include the Tyalgum Spring Fair, the Tyalgum Dance Spectacular, an operatic afternoon at Madura Tea Estate, a day out at the Tweed Regional Gallery, a country picnic and more.
The festival aims to encourage visitors to stay overnight, boosting economic activity at a traditionally quiet time on the tourist calendar.
