Future keeps Chelsea on her toes

CHELSEA Haddon is poised on the edge of an amazing adventure.

In just a few days, the Buderim teenager will pack her bags and head for the Joffrey Ballet School's trainee program in New York, where she will spend four years honing her dance skills.

The 19-year-old's plans to start university this year were pushed aside when she was offered the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

"I couldn't pass up an offer like this," Chelsea said. "I wanted to just continue dancing wherever I went."

She started ballet at age 13 after her grandmother said she looked like a natural "little ballerina".

Despite starting classes later than most girls, she had no trouble finding her rhythm.

"I definitely fell into it and kind of found my niche," Chelsea said. "I just like the way you connect in ballet.

"It's a way I can express myself in the most honest way possible."

Since leaving school she has continued living and breathing ballet by studying for a diploma of dance at Brent Street Performing Arts School in Sydney.

It was there she heard about auditions for the Joffrey Ballet School.

"I would love to eventually get into a classical company," Chelsea said. "It would be amazing to potentially choreograph as well."
