THE stars were out enjoying the big swells at Snapper Rocks this week as the Coast gears up for its peak surfing season, heading into the Quiksilver Pro in March.

Tweed Heads stars Mick Fanning and Joel Parkinson and Kingscliff surfer Cody Klein were at Snapper on Thursday to make the most of four-six foot (1.2-1.6m) waves whipped up by two tropical cyclones sitting over the Coral Sea.

Kelly Slater is rumoured to be on his way to the Gold Coast and a host of other pros are expected to arrive soon ahead of preparations for the Quiksilver Pro.

Fun and consistent waves, brought on by gusty south-easterly winds, produced clean conditions and plenty of action for Fanning and co throughout the day on Thursday.

Weatherzone's Guy Dixon said conditions weren't surprising and would continue, so keep an eye out for more surfers making their way to the Coast before the Pro kicks off on March 10.
