Star lets slip when GoT will return

Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) has accidentally revealed when Game of Thrones’ season eight will return.

IT'S been locked in secrecy for months, but one of the stars of Game Of Thrones has accidentally revealed when season eight will hit our screens.

In an interview with Variety, Sophie Turner (who plays Sansa Stark) accidentally confirmed that the final six episodes will return in 2019, while discussing how excited she was about her upcoming X-Men movie.

"I'm really excited. Game Of Thrones comes out in 2019. Dark Phoenix is in November," she told the publication.

HBO has yet to confirm a date for their tentpole series' return, so Turner's statement will surely disappoint fans who have been desperate for information about their favourite show.

Apart from Turner's accidental confirmation, our knowledge about season eight is pretty limited.

In October, we learned that Game Of Thrones will continue filming until summer 2018, and considering how must effort goes into post-production on each episode, it makes sense that it would take a full year for HBO to finish work on the six-episode season.

If you're upset about the delay, look to the silver lining: showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss have been open about taking their sweet time on the final season in order to make it the most epic yet.

HBO programming president Casey Bloys explained Benioff and Weiss' lofty aspirations, confirming that they're going to take a full year-and-a-half to make the final season as climactic as possible. "They put everything - and are putting everything - into this show," said Bloys.

According to the actor who played Khal Drogo, Jason Momoa, who recently visited the show's Belfast set, the final season will be "the greatest thing that's ever aired on TV".

"It's going to be unbelievable. It's going to f**k up a lot of people," he said.

Looks like we'll have to wait around until 2019 to see if Momoa is right.
