Conflict of interest alleged: GC mayor in prime position
GOLD Coast Mayor Tom Tate has been accused of a conflict of interest over the sale of the former Surfers Paradise Bowls Club to a development company.
The company which bought for club for $770,000 is partly owned by the mayor and has plans to turn the site into a 52 storey apartment tower, the ABC has reported.
The Queensland Department of Natural Resources and Mines has agreed in principle to sell a block of land.
Questions have been raised about the low sale price, others developers had made offers of 10 times the final purchase price it was alleged, and whether his role as mayor is a conflict of interest in the ongoing development.
