Get silly with your children

POTTSVILLE kids have the chance to improve their language skills and stretch their imagination through a local play group.

The Pottsville Toddler Tunes and Stories group has been successfully held at the Pottsville Beach Neighbourhood Centre every Friday morning since 2005.

Group co-ordinator Michelle Walker welcomed newcomers to the group, which she said was always well attended.

“It is a weekly, child-centred group for Tweed Coast families to experience fun with music and movement, to develop language skills and imaginative play through themed story-time and related drama activities,” Ms Walker said.

“Last Friday was our first day back for 2011. The group runs throughout the school term.”

Ms Walker said its focus was to build on the relationship between children and parents.

“ It’s not about the parents sitting on the sideline watching the kids play,” she said.

“The activities help the parents to have fun with the kids, to be silly with them while developing their skills.

“The children learn skills that will help them at school.”

The sessions start at 10.45am and conclude at noon every Friday.

Bookings are preferred. Contact Michelle Walker on 0438 269 889.
