Giles set to make Eagles debut

RUCKING journeyman Jon Giles will play just his 55th game in 11 seasons when he plays his first for West Coast at the Gabba tomorrow.

Giles has been called up by the Eagles to face the Lions after Nic Naitanui underwent surgery on both his achilles tendons and Scott Lycett was dropped for disciplinary reasons.

Lycett "failed to meet team standards" after the loss to Adelaide in Perth last Saturday night, coach Adam Simpson saying "We are very disappointed that Scott has let the club down".

First drafted in 2005, Giles spent four years at Port Adelaide (2006-2009) without playing a senior game before racking up 51 appearances as a solid contributor for GWS (2012-2014) until pushed out by Shane Mumford.

He played three more at Essendon (2015), but the arrival of ex-Lion Matthew Lleuenberger triggered another move.

He will take on the ruck combination of Stef Martin and Trent West tomorrow.
